Complementary or Alternative ?

The subject matter of healing has raised many questions in the healing community. However, one over-riding question was led to the more commonly known term Complementary Healing as opposed to Alternative.

Much has been discussed about the names Alternative or Complementary. Are healers providing an alternative solution to conventional medicine or are they providing solutions which complement everyday medicine supplied by Doctors ?

In every section (of which there are many) of the healing world, with every practitioner of the various healing skills there are, you will now find the more commonly used terminology of complementary rather than alternative.

Complementary healing is not an exact science despite the impressively high percentage rate of success stories. Therefore, the wording is crucial when promoting or advertising healing practices.

A reputable healer will never advocate giving up conventional medicine and will always recommend seeking advice by a medical professional.

Which ever healing source is being sought, any practitioner will have an understanding of the body and it works in line with that particular method of healing.

Because of today's hectic lifestyles and heavy demands on both the body and the mind, Complementary Healing is no longer a taboo subject or one which is dismissed as 'nonsense'. More and more people are turning towards a holistic lifestyle and experimenting with different healing methods to find which suits them individually and fits in with their changing lifestyles.

The benefits are enormous and extremely rewarding as well as having a life changing effect on many, many people. Conventional medicine can help with pain relief but complementary healing offers both pain relief and assistance with changing a lifestyle to avoid future stress occurring. Meditation, tai-chi, yoga, pilates, reiki, are all forms of healing and sources of combating stress which are being introduced into the work place. This in turn is having an effect so well on individuals that they are taking these new-found learnings home to their families to incorporate into every day life in all areas.

Think you don't have time to fit any of these complementary benefits into your life ? Think again! 15 minutes of Tai-Chi before starting your day will improve your energy levels, provide you with clarity of mind and give you a feeling of well-being throughout the day. Positive feelings have a knock on feeling of positive thoughts and actions. Productivity at work will be dealt with free of the levels of stress experienced before. Set the alarm clock 15mins earlier, switch off the TV 15 minutes earlier and go to bed. Try taking 15mins off your lunch-break to incorporate a short meditation. The benefits again are incredible. Stress levels fall, blood pressure eases off, you feel relaxed and capable of dealing with whatever the rest of the day holds in store. Any pains experienced through holding onto stress and pressure, will ease off. Your mood will be enhanced to a happier more positive state. Your physical health will improve as well as your digestion - another symptom of pressures or stress.

So try it! - start your day with a more gentle but powerful and positive form of stimulating the mind and body.
